Spring Is the Perfect Time to Install a New Heat Pump!

3 Tips to Help Conserve Your Home's Heat

When cooler weather arrives, your mind might immediately jump to concerns about an inevitable spike in heating bills. Thankfully, you can make your winter easier and less costly by following these simple tips to help conserve your home’s heat and prevent frequent service calls for heat repair in Grand Strand, SC.

1. Seal Air Leaks

Air leaks are one of the leading causes of lost heat. Leaks around doors and windows allow cold air to creep inside. And any cracks or gaps in your walls, crawl spaces, or foundation will contribute to warm air escaping as well.

Thankfully, window and door leaks can often be fixed using caulk to create an airtight seal. Checking your weather stripping to ensure it is intact and properly sealed will also help prevent leaks. Depending on their size, some crawl space leaks and cracks can also be sealed with caulk or spray foam insulation.

2. Run Ceiling Fans

Although it may sound counterproductive, turning on your ceiling fan in the winter can help stop the hot air from rising and collecting at the top of the room. In turn, it will stay warmer without constantly needing to run the heating system.

One thing to keep in mind, though, is that you need to change the fan’s rotational direction. It should spin clockwise, as that will draw any cool air upwards and force hot air down into the room.

3. Keep Up With Routine HVAC Maintenance

Even newly installed HVAC systems require a tune-up to work at their best. While you can perform some maintenance tasks, such as changing filters, a licensed professional who can provide heat repair in Grand Strand should perform more complex maintenance, like a thorough inspection and cleaning of your system.

Know When to Schedule a Heat Repair in Grand Strand

Heating systems are complex, and certified technicians have the knowledge and training to complete tasks beyond basic maintenance. Contact a local HVAC company when you experience strange noises or odors, uneven heating, or frequent cycling. They’ll diagnose the problem and repair it so you can remain comfortable.
